Creating Land: Converting Challenges into Opportunities - One Manhattan West

The new towers soaring over the West Side of Manhattan define the recent wave of additions to New York City’s constantly evolving skyline. While their presence in the sky is clear, their most dramatic complexities lay underground, especially in the case of One Manhattan West. The tower is the first building to be completed in the Manhattan West Development; an entirely new 5-million-square-foot neighborhood built above active railroad tracks. The ongoing development is one of the most complex projects in New York City, and the creation of One Manhattan West was no small feat— as it required an intricate synthesis of architectural design and structural engineering to navigate the site conditions below and express an elegant simplicity above.
