Every Project Needs a Good Utility Engineer
This session provides a summary of inefficiencies and higher costs that result when utilities are not managed properly during project delivery. Against this background, the session describes the six pillars of Utility Engineering, provides a summary of utility-related research projects conducted in the United States and abroad as described in the recently published Transportation Research Board's Centennial paper, summarizes lessons learned from the Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) implementation, and outlines short-term and long-term strategies to improve utility practices during the project delivery process.
